look don't see

I just… I just don't think people get it.

They take a look at Gokudera and the automatically think 'rebel' or 'gang'. They see the way he talks to other students with his foul language, the way he chooses his words, his actions. They see how disrespectful he is to his elders, they see how much of an asshole he really can be, and they see how much he just doesn't give a shit of what you say about him. (unless you're Tsuna, then that's a different story)

Don't 'see', look.

Understand.

Figure it out.

Put all the puzzle pieces together.

Gokudera was once a rich boy, who knew how to play the piano, and grew up with anything and everything he asked for. He had a mother who loved him, a father who didn't keep secrets from him, and a sister he could with stand being in the same room with.

Now, it's all gone.

His mother died, his father lied. All of this happened to such a young boy at once. There was nothing he could do but run.

Gokudera grew up on the streets by himself. He learned how to survive. He grew up alone, constantly facing trouble. He got into fights, and he didn't always win.

Gokudera's only chose was to get involved with the mafia, but he didn't have any skills, so he would constantly get involved with the wrong people.

Gokudera probably just needs someone to love him, 'cause he didn't get much of that when he was younger. He won't admit it, but he loves it when I hold him, when I tell him I love him, when I randomly kiss him.

Don't whisper behind his back.
Don't think badly of him.
Don't say that you understand.
Because you don't.

So, whenever someone asks me,

"Yamamoto, why do you go out with him?"

I reply with a simple laugh and a "Why wouldn't I?"
